mini-review: Little Red Fox

A small cafe and market on Connecticut Avenue in Chevy Chase DC, on the same strip as longtime independent bookstore/community institution Politics & Prose (Little Red Fox also operates the cafe in P&P).

The coffee is made with beans from Coava, a high quality roaster and cafe operator from Portland, OR.

My experience has been that the quality of the espresso is almost always very high but sometimes inconsistent, particularly when the cafe is packed (as it always is for weekend brunch). But overall it’s still very much worth a stop for coffee.

The real star here is the food, particularly the breads and baked goods. The pies are expensive but worth every damned penny. The flavors rotate, but if the mixed berry or ginger chess are in stock, get them. Breads also outstanding and form the base for awesome sandwiches at breakfast and lunch.

Lots of interesting freshly made salads and entrees are available to eat in or take home, and there’s a small but interesting selection of beer, wine, and gourmet foods.

Closed Mondays, but you can visit the Politics & Prose cafe to get your start of the week caffeine fix.
