mini-review: La Tabatiere

Some places are more about the coffee. Some are more about the food. This one falls into the latter category, but they get the coffee right as well.

Gorgeous small bakery in a suburban town in northern Bergen County, NJ. Founded by a baker with a formal French background, and the display case proves this in spades. Not a good place to visit if you’re trying to avoid sweets or breads, because everything looks amazing.

We ordered ham and cheese croissants because we needed breakfast before hitting the road, and spent the next hour or so telling each other again and again just how amazing they were.

As for coffee, Stumptown beans made in a gleaming beauty of a manual La Marzocco machine. Very well made. The barista on our visit makes macchiatos properly, and favors adding foam only rather than milk. Staff were very polite.

If you go during peak morning times you will see how much the local populace appreciates this little gem of a shop, so be patient. It will be worth it.

Sorry no pics, but be sure to check out their website and Instagram if gorgeous food porn is your thing.
